Grades and Points: For several years previous to the fall term of 1972, the grade of E was given course credit. Prior to the fall term of 1973, fewer grades were available and those were based on the 5.0 scale; these point values and the corresponding cumulative averages should be used with caution. In the fall of 1973 grades of undergraduates were converted to the current 4.0 system.
Since 1965 there has been a "Non-Recording Option" whereby a NR (formerly CR) is entered instead of the actual grade, and the grade is not averaged. In the fall term of 1973 "Credit/No Credit" courses were introduced in which the student's work is evaluated as CT (Credit) or NC (No Credit); neither standing is averaged, and the latter carries no credit. Use of the "Non-Recording Option" is the student's choice; "Credit/No Credit" grading is, to the contrary, a departmental choice.
An asterisk beside a grade, from the fall of 1973 on, indicates a Citation for meritorious performance in a course; if available, a copy of the citation statement will be included.
EXPLANATION OF GRADUATE RECORD
HP High Pass Superior quality
P Pass Good quality
LP Low Pass Acceptable quality
NC No Credit Work that is not acceptable for graduate credit
CT Credit Satisfactory work in certain courses, such as
research courses, that assignment of a grade of
HP, P and LP is considered inappropriate. The
grade of CT is not intended as a routine alternative
to the HP, P, LP system. CT is the only passing
grade in a course in which it is used.
Graduate students enrolled in undergraduate courses are graded on the
undergraduate grading system.
Credits on entrance: CA, CD, CI & CP. |
